About one in five adults, or 20%, suffer from a diagnosable mental illness in a given year. This is a real number.
So, too, is 60%.
That’s the approximate percentage of calls we receive on a monthly basis that involve some form of mental illness. That’s a big number – and it, too, is real.
When you drill down and really look at the larger numbers, it’s even more alarming. Think about what “20%” of Americans looks like? That’s over 50 million people nationwide suffering from mental illness.
Those folks need a place to turn to get answers, to get help, and to find a resource that they can count on.
Depression. Anxiety. Bi-polar disorder. Major depression. PTSD.
These are some of the more common mental health disorders that Americans grapple with. However, there are others such as psychotic disorders, eating disorders and personality disorders just to name a few. All of these disorders require a certain level of care by top notch clinicians, all of whom care deeply about their work and treating clients.
Last week in our post, “Driving Change”, we discussed how our network is wide and deep and has professionals and providers all along the behavioral health spectrum. It’s critical, especially when it comes to mental illness.
Many times mental illness will be accompanied with a substance use disorder. The most typical substance use disorders in the United States are alcohol, cocaine and marijuana. This is referred to as co-occurring or dual diagnosis in the industry. This is more common than you know.
At Union First, our team is fully prepared to handle all of these types of cases. Whether it’s a stand alone mental illness, substance use disorder, or co-occurring, which is a mixture of both, we can handle it.
